The publication of The Ordinary Living, Adams' most recent collection of poems, gives MMSC an opportunity to devote an entire evening to Adams' work: poetry, stories and essays published in magazines and anthologies since 1972. This program will evoke Adams' vivid voice and extensive range. Adams' writing arises from the "ordinary" events in a woman's life: love, marriage, parents, children, loss, work, joy, death, sexuality - the hallmarks of an identity that give life meaning. No conflict, no story. Adams' persona struggles with an Irish-Jewish heritage, career v. family, selfishness and love's compromises.

MMSC audiences will remember the premiere in 1999 of Adams' one-act play, God's Lioness and the Crow: Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, as well as her other creations for MMSC, including an evening of Pulitzer Prize-winning poets and will look forward to this fall season's The Poetry of War. Ms. Adams received her Ph.D. from NYU and she recently retired as Professor of English at Pace University in order to write full-time. She was the judge in this year's Vanguard Voices of the Hudson Valley poetry contest.

Join us for this intimate look at the work of Barbara Adams. Readers will include MMSC favorites Christine Crawfis, Ruth Berg and RoseMarie Navarra. They will be joined by MMSC newcomer Heather Berry.
